In celebration of Agriculture month, the Hydrometeorological Service is hosting a photo competition. We are extending an invitation to all eligible participants to send us your best picture(s) relating to weather, climate and the environment.

Opening of Competition: 05/10/2020
Closing of competition: 23/10/2020

Contest Prizes:
First place: $45,000
Second place: $30,000
Third place: $25,000

Picture Specifications:

  • Must be in Landscape Orientation
  • Must be submitted in JPG format
  • Photo must be at least 300 dpi and a maximum file size of 10 MB.
  • Must be at least 1600mp
  • Resolution of 1960 *1080


Eligibility:
 The contest is open to all Guyanese photo enthusiasts aged 18 years old and above.

What to Enter:
Each participant can submit up to three (3) photographs. All photographs should be of Guyana and representative of the indicated theme. Entry must not have been awarded in any other photo contests and/or commercially published whether for news, advertising or otherwise.

Manipulation of photos: The only acceptable manipulations include correction of shadows and highlights, cropping, and straightening of photos. No added text, color manipulations, or photoshopped submissions.

Display and Future Use Rights: By submitting an entry to the contest, the submitter grants permission to the Hydrometeorological Service, Ministry of Agriculture, the use, and rights associated to the use of the photographic likeness, in promotional publications, and other media, without compensation. The photographs submitted will be used in future publications and social media content by the Service.

Results of the competition are final and non-appealable.

Submission of Photos:
Filename of the photo must be in the format “SURNAME_PHOTO TITLE”.
Contestants will be required to provide the following information upon submission of entry:

  • Full Name:
  • Date of Birth
  • Mailing Address
  • Mobile Number
  • E-mail Address
  • Photo Caption: (1-2 sentences explaining/describing the photograph and its relevance to the theme)
  • Date the photo was captured: (Month, Year)
  • Location the photo was captured: (ex: Parika, Mt. Roraima, Berbice River)
  • Camera Used

Awarding Ceremony
The announcement of the Top 3 winning photos will be held on 30 October, 2020.
Winners will be required to come to the Hydromet Service’s office at 18 Brickdam, Stabroek, Georgetown, to claim their prizes.

Guidelines:

  • All applicants are required to submit a completed online application form
  • Applicants will be randomly selected
  • Upon selection each applicant will be contacted and given the necessary log in instructions
  • All competition rounds will be conducted via Zoom call
  • The competition will have three Preliminary Rounds, Two Semi- Finals and one Final.
  • Only the top three participants will be awarded

Eligibility: This contest is open to all students currently in Primaries 2-4 (Grade 4-6) and Forms 1-3 (Grade 7-9) within Guyana.

Rules:

  • The competition will have two (2) categories: Primary and Secondary
  • Participants are allowed to submit one piece of art in their respective category.
  • Artwork must be an original piece, completed solely by the participant.
  • Media allowed includes: Pen, pencil, markers, crayons, acrylic paints, charcoal, watercolors, and paper
  • Artwork must be related to one of the listed themes
  • Original work must not exceed 8.5X14 inches
  • Submitted artwork is subject for use by the Hydrometeorological Service, Ministry of Agriculture.

Submission of Artwork:
Entries can be mailed or hand delivered to the Hydromet Service’s office at 18 Brickdam, Stabroek, Georgetown. They can also be submitted via email to hydrometservice.pr@gmail.com.
Entries submitted via email must be scanned and submitted in JPG format.

Contestants will be required to provide the following information upon submission of entry:

  • Name of entrant
  • Date of Birth
  • Grade level
  • Name of school
  • Names of parent or guardian
  • Mailing address
  • Telephone number
  • Entries must be accompanied by an “Artist’s Statement” of at least 10 words but no more than 200 words. The artists statement communicates what inspired the work, how it relates to the theme, and the content of the work. Both the title and the artist statement must be the work of the student who creates the work.
